lifesaver -or- consumer whore cami loves her leatherman...

Roughly 15 years ago my roommate at the time, Dave, got a brand new Leatherman multi-tool.  It was fancy.  I'm not sure, but I think he wasn't happy with the old basic model he had knowing that the company had moved on to bigger and better things.  I think it was a sign of geek status in a time before smart phones were in every pocket.  Whatever the reason he decided to get a new one, he gave me his old one.  Just a plain old Leatherman tool.  I stuck it in my purse and away we went.  From that day forward it's been with me.  In tiny clutches, in mom purses, briefcases, laptop bags, suitcases and overnight bags.  It has nestled into tight pants pockets.  Rattled around in big coat pockets.  Sat on shelves and tables too innumerable to mention.

It has pried, cut, screwed, filed opened, closed, wiggled, snipped, sawed, scraped, cleaned and punched holes in so many things I can't keep track.  And it's not just me.  Friends, family, acquaintances and relative strangers have borrowed it for a moment here and there to fix things that have needed fixing.

Just a well made hunk of metal and it's touched my life nearly every day of the last 15 years.  Today I fixed my broken vacuum with it.  Tomorrow maybe I'll save the world.

So Thank you, Dave.  It was quite possibly the best gift ever.
